Heather Kocum
LPC
Mental Health Clinician
Education:
B.A. in Psychology, North Carolina State University
M.A. in Clinical Psychology, University of Hartford
Professional Interests:
My clinical interests include the treatment of trauma, mood disorders, anxiety, stress management, and family and peer conflict. I enjoy working with students at this critical time in their development to help them explore their identity and establish a sense of self. I appreciate any opportunity to engage in the campus community and build relationships with people from diverse backgrounds. I am also particularly interested in working with the LGBTQ+ community, providing and coordinating gender-affirming care.
Therapeutic Approach:
I utilize a variety of treatment modalities tailored to the unique needs of each student, and I believe in a person-centered, strengths-based approach to help students achieve the goals they set for themselves. My work is influenced by psychodynamic and humanistic theories, though I often incorporate CBT and DBT skills in sessions. My goal as a clinician is to create a safe and affirming partnership with students in order to empower them to overcome life’s challenges.
