Erin Cushing, LMFT
Mental Health Clinician (per diem)
Education:
BA, Psychology, Houghton College
MA, Marriage & Family Therapy, University of Connecticut
Professional Interests:
My clinical interests include the treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, stress management and relational conflict. I am most interested in working with young adults as they move through particularly challenging and exciting life transitions. I appreciate the wide range of developmental, academic and social pressures facing undergraduate and graduate students, and I try to help individuals develop the necessary insight, skills and self-confidence to manage these stressors and changes. I prioritize collaboration and strength-focused treatment while helping address student needs and improve student outcomes.
Therapeutic Approach:
Being trained as a marriage and family therapist, I diagnose and treat mental health issues within the context of a person’s relationships, family, community, and culture, and utilize a systemic perspective to conceptualize treatment needs and goals. I use an integrative, strength-based approach, drawing from systemic theories and often incorporate CBT and DBT skills in my sessions. I encourage individuals to utilize their own strengths and resources as a means of identifying solutions and making progress toward lasting change. Above all, I believe that connections between people are built on trust and respect. I provide a warm, supportive environment, and welcome a collaborative working relationship.
